We yearned for the future..

Currently reading Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" after thoroughly enjoying her more recent novel, "Oryx and Crake." I love a good post-apocalyptic tale of not-so-distant futures as much as the next guy, and Atwood definitely dominates the genre in terms of satire and reflecting our society through a fun house mirror.

Is it so far-fetched to believe that everything as we know it could change in the blink of an eye? That perhaps the end is already nigh and zooming towards us at millions of light years per second as we live on in blissful ignorance of its arrival? Don't forget, even the sun is 8.31 light minutes away which means any moment now we could be experiencing a catastrophy of solar proportions.

And if you ever see me zone out into space, I'm often dreaming up escape routes and survival plans against an impending zombie uprising. Better to be safe than sorry, and oh how sorry you'll be.

MUNNY HONEY

So now that the big day has passed, I am free to post Amy's birthday gift without spoiling the big reveal. And to truly be big, you have to think small:

I bring them to the light for you

Love how an album/track can instantly transport your mind to a different time and place. Kid CuDi "Soundtrack 2 My Life" = 10/09, wandering around the Science Park in Potsdam, Germany at dusk by myself with not another soul in sight.

Unfortunately (?) I lost track of time in my adventuring, missed the last bus and had to fend for myself armed only with my trusty German phrasebook and a hearty American smile.

"HAUBTENHOF?"

Say Yes To Pink

Mountbatten pink (or Plymouth pink or 997A8D) is a naval camouflage color invented by Louis Mountbatten of the British Royal Navy during World War II, developed to disguise warships during periods of dawn and dusk.

Interesting how changing social/gender conventions work out. Then again, a big old pink battleship can probably only hide you for so long..

KOH-VISION

Let's lighten the mood, shall we?

Inspired by this be-pearled red carpet look worn by Lady Gaga and designed by the Asian punk boy himself, Mr. Terence Koh, I decided to create a little homage-- THE FUTURE'S SO WHITE WE GOTTA WEAR SHADES:

Basically, I took a pair of light refractive lenses and Koh'd them the fuck up. Deceptively simple, however, as there was nothing basic about the tedious process of adhering different sizes of pearls and later masking the frankensteined results with white Liquitex.

Well worth the few hours of work-- a duration of time perhaps lengthened by the fact that I was appropriately half watching the icy splendor of the Olympic Men's Short Performance Figure Skating coverage. Of course I retired my paintbrush and suspended all work entirely for the fabulous Johnny Weir who so rightfully deserved my full attention.

And the best part is of course the view..

On Death..

"In Sikhism death is considered a natural process. An event that has absolute certainty and only happens as a direct result of God's Will or Hukam. To a Sikh, birth and death are closely associated, because they are both part of the cycle of human life of "coming and going" ( ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ , Aana Jaana) which is seen as transient stage towards Liberation ( ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ , Mokh Du-aar), complete unity with God.

Sikhs thus believe in reincarnation."

NEGATIVE SPACE

So many crucial events take place behind people's backs, when they aren't in a position to watch: birth and death, for instance.

Avantissimo

Just recalled this beautiful Audi concept wagon from 2001, truly a masterpiece in masculine German restraint and a thoughtful execution of the brand's design philosophies. Wild to think this debuted nearly ten years ago, feels like just yesterday-- a thought not harmed by the timeless stretches of sheetmetal.

That said, the 'VAG' may have a way with style however nomenclature was obviously never their strong suit. Points for camp, though.

OH CAPTAIN

The word "selfish" gets thrown around a lot surrounding suicide, but isn't it fitting to not care what anyone thinks of you in death just as you did in life? Is that the ultimate fuck you?
